I have been sponsoring a girl for about 6 years. She is from a v poor background in S India. She is learning English at school. I have the opportunity to send her a parcel next week through a friend. Any ideas of a book I could include. I was thinking a kind of Usbourne vocab book maybe?

But I don't want something too Western...

Maybe a book is a bad idea I just thought it was something that would last.

Am sending cards and photos mainly

Any ideas v welcome - thanks!!

That's a really lovely idea! Not sure of age range, but some suggestions here for English language books from Indian authors. Also, if you could find a story that is in both her native language and English, that might help too?

You could go the other way and send something that is very focused on life in the UK. There's an usborne book about London: www.amazon.co.uk/London-See-Inside-Usborne/dp/074607753X/ref=sr_1_4?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1463656997&sr=1-4&keywords=London

There's also a Topsy and Tim book about them visiting London.

A book is a great idea. Pencils/pens too.
