Name of a French children's book

Hi,

I'm trying to remember the name of a series of books I remember reading as child that I think were originally in French. The main character was a young boy and for some reason the only part I remember clearly is that in one of the books they played football with a an old tin can. The game was taken over by the adults and ended when someone cut their lip on the tin can.

I realise this is not much to go on but maybe someone out there will remember it.

Must be Le petit Nicholas. Fabulous books (first one is best for adults, but others good for kids).

That was it, for some reason I thought that the child's name began with an A or E but think I was confused by that other classic Emil and the detectives.
