Hi, just wondered what your 5/6 year old girls were reading. Looking to buy a few new books.

Judy Moody and the Secret Unicorn books. I think Anna Hibiscus is fabulous too.

I'm reading Roald Dahl books to DD at the minute. She can manage a page or so herself.

Rainbow fairies are a hit (very repetitive for an adult though)

Dd often reads the picture book I used to read to her mostly Julia Donaldson, Quentin Blake etc

Get some collections from The Book People to have a wide selection which are great value for money.

5 year old boy here, but I'm assuming they read the same thing regardless of gender. He likes at the moment:

Roald Dahl - the bfg, James and the giant peach, George's marvellous medicine

The worst witch series

Enid Blyton - magic faraway tree

The famous five - have just bought, he hasn't read yet

My daughter loved these - The Fairy Rhelm series - by Emily Rhodda

Is she's is a fan of animals, try looking at Gill Lewis new series.
She's a really well established writer, so these are very good.

Anne Fine is another author to look out for.
How about the Katie Morag stories, and Sophie and the Shadow Woods.
Definitely Worst Witch!

6 year old DD here. Given the option she will choose rainbow magic every time...

Another big favourite is a book of the collected poems of Allan Aldberg. Her favourite is 'Getting up for school'. And any poem that has a good rhythm so 'the night mail' has been read so many times that she can recite it.

Some Dick King Smith too. The Sophie books are great. And if she'd rather listen to them then you can buy them as audiobooks read by Bernard Cribbins (Or as DD says Old Jack)
