Sorry for the lack of detailed description, but there was a book I loved as a child (early 80s).

I can't remember the author or the title sadly, but it was about a girl who had to hide from a magical ice/snow queen. From memory it was set in her garden? She had to make a potion... collecting dew with (I think. ..) the help of some animals (a bird/cat maybe)?

So sorry this is rather scatterbrained.. If this rings any bells whatsoever, please put me out of my misery!!! Thank you! !

No help, but I love these threads Smile

You know when you wonder whether you imagined it? Hoping someone will know what on earth I'm going on about from the scant/rubbish description! :)

Not the Snow Quern by Hans Christian Andersen? In one but the girl cries in her garden and her tears make the roses grow..

Remembermyname · 27/04/2015 23:34

Or even queen!

This really rings a bell, but I have no idea which one! Marking place quite shamelessly.

Not the snow queen I don't think. It wasn't a classic fairy tale as I recall. I'm sure it had a blackbird or some kind of bird in it. .. plus definite potion brewing.. and dew... and icicles?? Maybe they were melted in the potion... oooh I nearly remembered a bit more then!

The Lion The Witch and The Wardrobe? That's got animals and birds, an Ice Queen, a girl hiding in the woods?

WoodyandLol · 27/04/2015 23:59

Thanks for the suggestion though Remembermyname :) . Also, I'm sure she had to hide in a frozen cave whilst the ice/snow/queen/witch came into the cave. .. something to do with the moon maybe?? Arrgghhhh. Help!!

Sadly not Lion Witch and the Wardrobe :( although that was another favourite at around the same time :)

The Mountain of Magic/Stream that stood Still, by Beverly Nichols? Lots of hiding from a witch and ice and snow.

Or one of the Carbonel sequels?

WoodyandLol · 28/04/2015 00:19

No, neither of those Notcitrus - Thank you though.. Very close in terms of storylines.. But not the one :)
