His Dark Materials, too much for a 9yo?

Trying to think of an audio book to download from Audible for the whole family to listen to in the car to/from Pembrokeshire (leaving today).

What can I get to keep two adults a 10 year old and a 9 year old happy for nine hours?

Would love to get Northern Lights but think it might be a bit much for dd2.

DD1 is just turned 10, she loved the film last year can't remember if she was 8 or 9 already. She is reading the book at the moment and loves it too.

Narnia? a less well known CS lewis?
Jules verne?
Treasure Island?
Sherlock holmes?

My ten year old has loved the talking books also Eregon trilogy

Artemis Fowl!

We've listened to all of Narnia already. Eregon, that's the dragons isn't it? Are the books better than the film? The film was really bad.

Had forgotten about Artemis Fowl.

The Books are much, much better than the film! DS was quite Hmm about the film as he'd loved the Eragon books.

That's good to know, thanks Smile

The books are great the film was dreadful! My son was 9 when he listened to them and loved them

The Artemis Fowl audio books are excellent (got them for dd, then listened to them all myself over a couple of months while washing up Grin )

Agree also, the Eragon film is (according to Eragon fan dd) a travesty. Can you get Percy Jackson as a talking book?

Another vote for Artemis Fowl audio books. I don't need an excuse to listen to them.

Did you buy His Dark Materials OP?

We have just finished the audio book of Northern Lights and both DS1 (9 nearly 10) and DS2 (7 nearly 8) loved it. The books are just enjoyed on a different level to the way adults would enjoy them.

The DCs both picked up on the anti religion element (which gets stronger as the series progresses) but loved it for an adventure story about strong children and different worlds with talking polar bears and brilliant baddies.
