Book ideas for non fiction loving 9yr old boy

My son is 9 and really enjoys non fiction. He will always choose his encyclopedia over any other book.
He does like funny stories ( David Walliams etc) but fantasy books such as harry potter or the hobbit etc do not interest him at all.

So are there any books you'd recommend to get him reading something other than his encyclopedia every night?

Are there any particular non-fiction topics he's interested in?

The Steve Backshall deadly 60 book went down well with DS.

I just got Richards Hammonds mysteries of the world here for my DD who is the same age. It is full of things like the Bemuda Triangle, the Loch Ness Monster and the yeti - the book looks at all different possibilities and tries to decide if the mysteries are real. DD loves it!

I also recommend the Deadly 60 books, Horrible Histories and some of the Tony Robinson books are good (worst Kids jobs in History that kind of thing)

This book about Kings and Queens is another real favourite

Have you seen the shortlist for this book award? It may give you some ideas - the winning book looks brilliant.

Great thank you! He's read all the horrible histories, but I will look into all the others.
He will read anything providing it's true. He read a whole book (2-3 hundred pages ) about mushrooms one evening.

He likes stories about regular people doing regular things, but as soon as someone starts flying or animals talking etc he looses interest. He just doesn't get it.

Has he already gone through Mark Twain?
