Is she a library member?

Thurlow · 18/09/2014 14:11

Anything by Julia Donaldson or Judith Kerr generally does down a treat, but some lesser known books that DD has loved since that age are:

Tatty-Ratty
Mucky Pup
And The Fabulous Flapdoodles

pinkglitter80 · 18/09/2014 14:15

yes we're library members... was wondering about Julia Donaldson as we have room on the broom and the gruffalo but she gets bored before the end - are there shorter ones?

Meg and Mog are fab, I think both JD and JK are a bit long for that age.

JuniperTisane · 18/09/2014 16:08

There are some shorter Julia Donaldson ones - Tales from Acorn Wood. Neither of my boys rated them much though.

DS2 is 20m and his current favourites are

Wow Said The Owl
This is the Bear and the Picnic Lunch
Goodnight Moon
Apple Tree Farm series
Hairy McClary series

loudarts · 18/09/2014 16:11

Cat in the hat, green eggs and ham, Fox in socks. All of mine loved Dr Seuss at that age.

animaniac · 18/09/2014 16:12

My DS is 20 months and loves all the Julia Donaldson ones. Also Aliens Love Underpants, Pirates Love Underpants and Dinosaurs Love Underpants. Bumpus Jumpus Dinosaurumpus is a good one, and Giraffes Can't Dance.

ButterflyOfFreedom · 18/09/2014 16:18

Dear Zoo
Any of the Spot books
Each Peach Pear Plum

My DS loves the Acorn Wood ones by Julia Donaldson - Fox's Socks, Rabbit's Nap etc.
He also has a couple of Peppa Pig ones he enjoys.

Lovelydiscusfish · 21/09/2014 06:57

How Do Dinosaurs Say Goodnight?
Splat the Cat
Fergus' Scary Night
We're Going on a Bear Hunt

Dd loves all these, and they're not really long enough to get boring. Personally I think the basic premise of Bear Hunt is a bit ridiculous, but then, I am not two. Splat is my own personal favourite - I love the illustrations.

JiltedJohnsJulie · 21/09/2014 07:39

Was going to say Dear Zoo too. My Dd loved any Maisy book at this age. We got some from the library and I bought a few from charity shops and nct sales.

JiltedJohnsJulie · 21/09/2014 07:41

Hug is good too Smile

Mumraathenoisylion · 21/09/2014 07:43

The very hungry caterpillar

Mumraathenoisylion · 21/09/2014 07:46

Peppa pig books are short enough for them at that age (dd2 is 21 months) but keeps interest.

We also have a couple of singing books which she loves before bed. Hickory Dickory Dock with a little mouse puppet and 10 bears in a bed.

I think the Julia Donaldson books etc are way to old for this age!!! From around 3 they are good.

Petallic · 21/09/2014 07:59

10 drowsy dragons is popular with both my 2 and 3 year old.

Petallic · 21/09/2014 08:00

And Oi Frog - we all like that one a lot.

JiltedJohnsJulie · 21/09/2014 08:07

I agree on Julia Donaldson raa. Perhaps save those for her 3rd birthday.

WillYouDoTheFandango · 21/09/2014 08:21

They do a my first gruffalo touch and feel book that's a lot shorter.

DS loves it.

KittyandTeal · 21/09/2014 08:22

Rosie's walk is a lovely short one. My 2yo loved it around 20mo, she added her own words and stuff for the blank pages.

She also loves Julia Donaldson and Judith Kerr, the Mog books are favourites. You could always get them and make up your own short version until her attention is a little longer (exactly what we do now with noddys bloody car)

MsBug · 21/09/2014 08:25

Each peach pear plum is dds current fave
Bear hunt
Where the wild things are
Toddle waddle

JuniperTisane · 21/09/2014 09:07

DS2 loves Toddle Waddle. Can't get him past the train page though.

The other favourite I forgot about is The Little Red Train.

Bolshybookworm · 21/09/2014 09:14

My dds favourite at that age was the Tiger That Came To Tea. Of the Julia Donaldson books, she was never so keen on the gruffalo (likes it now, at 3) but enjoyed the snail and the whale and Tiddler.
She also loved some of the Martin Waddell books, particularly Farmer Duck.

WaitingForMe · 21/09/2014 09:16

DS is 22mths and for the last month his favourite book has been The Highway Rat by Julia Donaldson.

Pounamu · 21/09/2014 09:49

Favourites for my girls at this age were:

Guess How Much I Love You
Goodnight Moon (there are 2 other books along the same lines too but I don't think they are as good)
Noisy Farm
Hairy Maclary series
The Very Busy Spider
Spot series
My Mum and also My Dad, both books by Anthony Browne
Brown Bear Brown Bear, What Do You See?
That's Not My... series

It wasn't long after that age before they got into Julia Donaldson and Judith Kerr books. Mick Inkpen writes some great books for kids from around 2 years old. Wibbly Pig, This Is My Book, Kipper story collection.

Pounamu · 21/09/2014 09:51

Sorry, just to add - anything by Martin Waddell or Michael Rosen, they are great children's authors

Smizzlediz · 22/09/2014 21:15

You absolutely need need need Shark in the Park by Nick Sharratt! Anything by Nick Sharratt in fact but that one is the best Grin
