Please could I have some ideas for a 6 year old boy?

Hi everyone,

Please could I have some suggestions for a 6 year old boy? I bought him Horrid Henry a while ago which he has jut got into and would like to get him another book. He's got the Roald Dahl books already which was the next thing I thought of!

Any suggestions welcome :)

The 'How to Train Your Dragon' by Cressida Cowell is brilliant for both boys, girls and parents.

Sorry should have said series somewhere in there!

Also, the various books of A Series of Unfortunate Events by Lemony Snicket are sporadically picked up and laughed about!

Chip there's a whole series of how to train your dragon books, it's at about 9 books now. The film has used the characters but changed lots of things for the screen (eg Toothless is actually meant to be small enough to fit in Hiccup's pocket) so seeing one won't affect your enjoyment of the other.

Stanton's six year old is brave! I would say Lemony Snicket Series of Unfortunate Events are not appropriate just yet. We have the entire set on CD and had to stop listening to them since they do get very dark and are also very tense. They're not at all funny. DS1 (9) is fine with them but DS2 (6/7) was scared. He's not easily scared, DH is reading Harry Potter number 4 to him at the moment and that's fine but A Series of Unfortunate Events is meant for children older than 6.

Beast Quest are very popular and great for encouraging boys to read but every book follows the same format and they are deadly boring after a while.

Charlie Bone series is also good (along the lines of harry potter but for a slightly younger audience)

If he liked Horrid HEnry, he would probably enjoy Dirty Bertie too. With titles like burp and bottom, what 6yo wouldn't!! They got my DS reading and I found them slightly less annoying than HH

How about the Tom Gates series by Liz Pichon? Mine loves them.

Space Penguins - not brilliantly written IMO but great bits of Star Wars pastiche and plenty of action.
