Please help - trying to remember/find a book I read as a child

I remember reading a book about a little girl whose Daddy was away and the book was letters between them both. I can't remember the name of the book or who wrote it. I loved it and the fact I can't remember it is driving me mad. I've spent hours on book websites trying to find it. Does anybody have any idea what it might?

Thanks for the suggestion, unfortunately, that is not it. It was aimed at younger children, lots of pictures. I might not be remembering it properly, which is why I can't find it!!
