My niece's birthday is coming up and I'd like to get her some books. She loves stories and we have a lot of fun reading them together.
I'm sure you've all noticed that, with Christmas coming up, the telly is full of adverts for toys. My niece is becoming more perceptive and she will tell us which toys she wants for her birthday. She will say she wants things like dolls and princess related toys. If an ad for a toy aimed at a boy comes on (cars etc...) she will say she doesn't want those because "they're for boys"
It concerns me a bit that, even before her third birthday, TV advertising can shift the opinions she has of herself.
Could anyone recommend any good books suitable for her age which involve female role models doing cool stuff and having adventures?
I'm sure its fine and pretty normal that she likes princesses and dolls, I'd just like to maybe show her that girls have other options too
