I remember reading a book as a child about a boy in a rainforest tribe who has to go into the rainforest to find the most beautiful thing as part of a coming of age ritual.
It had the most vivid and beautiful illustrations of all the animals and plants he found in his journey. I seem to remember that he bought nothing back to his tribe as he couldn't decide what the most beautiful thing was, but that was the point of the journey in the end.
I'm only 21 so this book would have been around in the 90's.
Please help me find out what this book is! I've been googling for hours and I can't find it anywhere.
