Audio books for car for 9 yr olds

This year as our car journeys won't be fuelled with Radio 5's Olympics coverage I thought we would try some audio books to entertain our. Ishiguro twins. They are big H Potter fans so that's an obvious one, but any other ideas? Thanks

I have a 9 year old and the full works of Harty Potter lasted us from October to March on the school run we also enjoyed David Walliams and Roal Dahl and War of the Worlds.

I second getting them from the library - mine cost £1.30 to borrow for 3 weeks so much cheaper than buying. Plus you can download some for free onto ipods, although the choice isn't very wide.

My children are 10 and 8, and two we've all really enjoyed are "Granny" by Anthony Horowitz and "The Secret of Platform 13" by Eva Ibbotson.

The shapeshifters by Ali Sparkes was excellent audio book - and long 5 cd's worth!

Can get various Terry Deary books with short true tales of tudors, pirates etc - he's the horrible histories author, so in same vane but different.

DD has all the Harry Potter audiobooks, read by Stephen Fry. They are excellent - very good to listen to and SF reads them so well. However, they are very expensive!

How to Train your Dragon read by David Tennant

Artemis Fowl books, can't remember the reader but the audio books are ace (I listened to dd's whole series as washing-up-entertainment ).

If they like harry potter, at least the first Charlie Bone book is available on audio

The Clarice Bean audio books are great.

Wind in the Willows, Winnie the Pooh?

I've just bought the Hobbit CD a bargain at nearly 4 hours worth.

There are BBC dramatic productions of some classics that are very good, my DC liked The Secret Garden and The Railway Children but were less keen on Ballet Shoes (it was a 3-CD set).

They have also liked Stig of the Dump and The Phantom Tollbooth. You're a Bad Man Mr Gum was very popular with them a few years ago, but I think it's now a little too young for my 9 yr old DS.

DD is 9 and we've had one of the How To Train Your Dragon books (mm, David Tennant) on this trip. She's disappointed we didn't bring the entire His Dark Materials trilogy AGAIN ... fab, but we have heard it three times through.

I used to love the Narnia books in the car as a kid; I think there's some recordings with Kenneth Branagh that are lovely to listen to.

Harry Potter and How to train your dragon. That should last you the summer!
