Stitch Head & Wimpy Vampire - OK or too old for 7yr old?

DS1 (just 7) enjoys Horrid Henry, Mr Gumm & Flat Stanley but says he wants something 'gruesome' so I wondered whether Stitch Head or Dairy of a Wimpy Vampire' might suit? Are they similar reading level and if so do you think they are suitable for this age or perhaps a bit older? I don't want him having nightmares!!!
Many thanks

'Stitch Head' has a content suitable for 5-8 year olds. Wimpy Vampire is aimed at teens and would probably not be suitable for a child who has just turned 7 seeing as the main character is fifteen .........
