I got one from Amazon for under £3 including postage and I am snoopy dancing - I actually had tears in my eyes as I opened the parcel Grin
I still have my original 1970s childhood copy, but it is very worn now, and every time I've ever looked for a new one or one in better condition they have cost ridiculous amounts of money because it was "rare and collectable" and now, finally, there are new ones available at ordinary prices Grin
I can't WAIT to give it to DD to read, and I might let no3 son if he wants to, then I will put it away for no4 son in a couple of years. No3 son is very soft sensitive though so I won't push him if he doesn't want to read it yet, or I might read it to him and DD and no4 son can listen in if they like.
First I need to read it myself though reciting half of it along with the book and looking at the lovely pictures - the original pen and ink ones are in the new copy too Grin

Oh gosh that was a traumatic read. Seared on my memory.

Is that by Astrid Lindgren?

You do realise the new version has been on my bookshelf for a couple of years now at least? :)

NotALondoner · 23/04/2013 23:34

Yes, Astrid Lindgren.

Love Astrid Lindgren. Was reading the book to my dd last year and got quite teary Shock

She has written so many amazing children's books, I am always surprised that she is not more popular in this country.

Aww you've just brought back the most vivid memory of me sitting in the library as a child reading that book. I'll have to get a copy Smile
