Hi, my son is 4 in July and starts reception this September, he wants to stay in nursery and cried when I explained he will be in a big boys class with his friends. I've made it sound as exciting as possible but he's having none of it. I have now stopped talking about it but I was hoping someone could recommend a good book I could read him on starting school. Thanks! Smile

'Starting School' by Janet and Allan Ahlberg is a classic book to help children adjust to the idea of starting school. If you do a search on 'Starting School' on Amazon, lots of other titles come up, including ones featuring Charlie and Lola, Topsy and Tim, and Harry and the Dinosaurs, amongst others! Hope that helps.

There are loads out there and they will be very helpful as part of your preparations for transition to school.

My dd was just the same, did not want to stop nursery and start school. I didn't mention it much until much closer to September as talking about it wasn't helping. The main thing that reassured her was a home visit where she met the teacher and played with the TA. In the end she ran into school on the first day before I'd had a chance to say goodbye! She liked the Topsy and Tim Start School book.

The Terrible Suitcase by Freya Blackwood is a good one. It deals with the main character feeling her bag isn't quite right - and it creates a wonderful, warm classroom atmosphere.
