I've just bought this book for my avid reader DD who is 12 yrs old! She reads widely and this genre of book would appeal to her. Has anyone read it? Just wondering what your views are as to its suitability for an (almost) teenager to read? Thank you!

I haven't read it but its marketed for 13-17year olds - as a rule of thumb when a book is written for children the characters in the book are aged around two years older than the target audience - here the protagonist is 16 so 13/14 is probably the bottom age range its targeting. However that doesn't mean that it can't be read by a good and mature reader aged 12.

I have read it and would say it's fine for a mature 12 year old. Some scary-ish (for a 12 year old) bits but nothing too bad. Actually probably on a par with Harry Potter / Lord of the Rings (in terms of scary-ness rather than literary merit!)
