My DD (3.5 years old) has a squint and I think will need to wear a patch over her eye (appointment next week). She already wears glasses and is quite happy about that but to ease the transition with a patch, I'd love any recommendations on books about:

Thanks!

These are the right age range and come with stickers too ! One-eyed Jack is part of the crew.

Not a book but my DN wears a patch & initially got to choose fabulous poster charts that she stuck them onto once she'd worn them - like Cinderella (the patches were built up to make the skirt, each section was numbered) Hope that makes sense! Know of other children who've never been given these & Mum's have made their own. Also she has very colourful patterned patches whereas my friend's DC was given the plain ones so worth asking if you're not offered them. Hope all goes well. DN's eyesight is improving Smile

ds3's favorite pirate books (actually just favorite books ever): Captain Flinn and the Pirate Dinosaurs, The Pirate Cruncher, The Pirates Next Door

Don't forget Octonauts!

Mrs Pirate by Nick Sharratt is maybe a bit young for her but it's a favorite in this house. Yes to Octonauts and we've had some great pirate sticker books too.

Hi!
DS is a bit older and wore his patch age 5. The optometrist recommended the Eye-Five website
www.eyesite.nhs.uk/EyeFive/ which he really liked. You could show it to her and read some of the stuff. Not a book sorry, but thought you might be interested Grin.

We love The Night Pirates - there is a crew of rough tough girl pirates who get the treasure while the grown up male pirates cry Grin

Thank you everyone for your suggestions and recommendations! There are some great ones here and just having problems knowing which book to pick first.

I also found a great blog/website in my research and am posting it here for anyone else who is interested:

We love the pirates next door, its a really good story with lots to discuss.

HanSolo · 29/11/2012 23:48

We adore The Night Pirates too!

Also- The Three Little Pirates is great (but don't get the Early Reader version, as it's a cut-down version of the story)

Slightly OT but last time my DS2 got patches they have him a wall poster with spaces to stick the patches in after he has worn them. There's space for 50 patches and I have told him he can have a Skylander when he fills it up. There are no complaints about eyepatch wearing any more! Maybe you could ask your orthoptist whether they have these charts or make one of your own.

We have recently found Pirates Love Underpants.
My daughter wore patches when she was three, she was given the colourful patches and poster, we did a dragon and a princesses dress, she still talks about the posters two years later. It's amazing how easily they get used to wearing the patches. She always enjoyed telling everyone at pre school why she was wearing.
