Book suggestions for leaving presents - 8yo girls

We have two girls leaving our class next month & I thought a book each as a leaving present would be nice.
Question is what books ?
One girl is a joker, always chirpy & jolly and would appreciate a good giggle. She reads an awful lot so it's possible she's read all the usual suspect books.
The second girl also reads a lot. She's more of Tomboy & wouldn't appreciate anything really girly even though her mum wishes she'd find her inner pink

Any ideas would be gratefully recieved !!

Understood Betsy is an absolute cracker. It's a classic American book about a child who leaves the city to live with relatives in rural vermont.

I read it as a child and it had a real affect on me because it's about a child who facces change and grows for the better...blossoming in her new surroundings. She's 9 so the girls may both like this...
