ds1 had a CD player for his birthday for his room to play music and audio books at bedtime - any good suggestions?

I hate to say it, but the Famous Five seem still to be immensley popular with that age. We had BBC audiobooks ones which DD loved though they were screamingly funny for grownups (Timmy was so very patently a man going 'woof' 'woof').

There's also a good version of How to Train your Dragon read by David Tennant if your ds doesn't mind slightly scary books (only a little bit scary!).

Amazon have a set of roald Dahl books that are brilliant, dd is 6 and she loves them. They are in a tin, you get about 10 stories and they cost about £30

Ds1 (also 6) loves the naxos king arthur cd ,it's narrated by Sean Bean. He's also keen on The Reluctant Dragon ,by Kenneth Grahame, Just So Stories and Johnny Morris Bedtime stories.
If your ds is into history/knights and castles etc, then "our Island Story" (also a Naxos CD) is a great way into British History.

We have that tin of Roald Dahl CDs and it's brilliant (am sure I paid much less than £30 for it though...) They are all read by great actors. There are other Roald Dahl stories available separately - George's Marvellous Medicine read by Richard E. Grant is a big favourite.

The Mr Gum audio books are also fab - read by the author, Andy Stanton who is very deadpan and funny.

Other hits for us have included the Famous Five (again!), The Owl Who Was Afraid of the Dark read by Maureen Lipman and The Worst Witch books read by Miriam Margolyes.
