Northern Broadsides= biff chip n kipper whats the connection

Just noticed that Chip is drawn wearing a "northern Broadsides" theatre company sweatshirt in "super dog" .... was it just in one edition or it in all of them? and WHY Northern Broadsides? the book was written in 1987 but NB wasn't formed till the mid 90s...

any clever people with random knowledge on this subject care to enlighten me?
