...he's currently reading The Life of Pi and has enjoyed Skulduggery Pleasant, Harry Potter and the like in the past.

Want to expand his reading experiences and thought a graphic novel might be a good idea, though have no idea where to start.

The Ballad of Halo Jones
Sandman series

Maus by art spiegelman is amazing-though it may depend on the maturity of the reader. I suppose it is a bit like Anne Frank in graphic form. It is hugely sad and complex and moving. It's a thought-but others may disagree. I'm really bit confident that it is age appropriate.

Stardust was great - quite different from the film.
Sandman is a classic, though he may find it confusing and some of it will go over his head.
League of Extraordinary Gentlemen might be good - better than the film and easy to read.

Don't do what my mum did and pick up a nice paperback graphic novel that will be easy to carry, thinking that MrNC will like a Japanese murder mystery - it was very hard to explain later than gay porn really isn't MrNC's thing!
Admittedly there's plenty of Japanese graphic novels that would be fine, but I'd check with someone knowledgeable in the bookshop first...

You could try Bleach or Fullmetal Alchemist (I love FMA). My DS1 also loves Naruto. They're all manga and have loads of volumes. FMA has (and is finished), bleach and Naruto are still going. They both have over 50 volumes.

Other popular manga for boys include one piece, death note, hunter x hunter, D.gray-man, yu-gi-oh (DS1 loves this, but I hate it), Shaman king, and loads more.

Hikaru no go is also great. It's about playing go, which sound borng but it's very good indeed.

Sorry, that should say, FMA has 27 volumes (and is finished).

Hmmm - checks bookshelves and hides Slaine and Nikolai Dante (DS1 6 is starting to rummage) - a tad "adult"

Would add Skizz and Zenith, Hewligans haircut, Ace Trucking, Ro-busters - Check out the 2000AD website here

AutumnWitch · 14/12/2011 14:38

that should be Skizz, Zenith btw
