Does anybody remember a childrens book from the 1970s called...

' am Lucy'

It was about a girl who had been brought up by her Grandmother and when her Grandmother died she went to live with her cousins. They were a very normal family, but Lucy had been brought up to be very old fashioned.

She kept going back in time (I think Victorian times) and was being pulled back by a girl ghost whose name I don't remember.

sorry if its a bit vague, but can't find it on the web and wondered if anyone else remembered it?

Thanks

I remember a tv series in the late 80's called Moondial, but the character wasn't called Lucy.

I also have "Charlotte Sometimes" where Charlotte swaps places with a girl from the end of the 1st world war.

Yes I remember the title! Rings bells with me anyway!

amimagic · 04/12/2011 22:27

Yes, I remember this book!

I remember she used to go up in the attic where the ghost girls things were in a trunk?

She hated the cousins' modern Christmas tree....

There are things coming back to me, but no title yet. Will sleep on it :)

I loved it btw

malakadoush · 05/12/2011 20:35

Yes that's the one, she went up to the attic and I think looked in a mirror and would see the other girl...or something along those lines.

I really loved it and would like to get it for my DD but can't find it online, and without the author probably won't find it anywhere else either.

Thanks for the replies.

It was called Come Back Lucy by Pamela Sykes.

BornToFolk · 05/12/2011 20:37

Yes, I remember this! It was a very cool book. I have no idea who it was by though, no one famous I don't think.

malakadoush · 05/12/2011 22:11

Elderberry - you are a star! You're right it is 'Come back' Lucy not I am lucy - that's why I couln't find it.

Thank you thank you all of you!

Cheapest online copy here.

malakadoush · 05/12/2011 22:18

I've just looked on Amazon and whilst 'Come back Lucy' is almost £10 you can get a book called 'Mirror of danger' also by Pamela Sykes which is described exactly like 'Come back Lucy' for only £4.42.

Weird

Mirror of Danger was the US title.

ShowOfHands · 06/12/2011 06:10

Abe has Mirror of Danger for 8p cheaper than Amazon. Grin Sounds fab. What age were you when you read it? Wondering if my niece might enjoy it.

Aftereightsaremine · 06/12/2011 06:38

I remember watching it on tv the ghost was called Alice (I think) & tried to drown Lucy. The cousins called their parents by their first names I remember thinking that was odd!

amimagic · 06/12/2011 21:40

MN is fab!

Going to get this for my DS :)

malakadoush · 06/12/2011 23:01

I think I was about 10 when I read it - I remember it being quite scary but I loved it. The other book I really enjoyed and that I've found on Amazon for my DD is 'When Marnie was there' & a childrens cook book from the 70's called 'Floury Fingers' which has a really easy cheese scone recipe.

Reminiscing... Grin
