I remember borrowing this book repeatedly from library when I was a teenager (I am now 40 something...)
I think two of the characters were called Julie and Steve. If I recall, Steve was Julie's boyfriend and was older than she was. The boy next door had a bit of a crush on her also and I think the book was written mostly from his point of view.
Not much to go on so far, I know. However:-
Julie ordered loads of things of 'club books' (catalogues) and couldn't pay for them. She also cooked a meal for Steve of fish and chips but set fire to the chip pan so ran into the chip shop asking them to cook the fish in breadcrumbs instead of batter so that he would think he was eating a home cooked meal.
I'm not claiming in any way that it was a good book. It's just bugging me that I can't remember what it was called.
