DD(9) wants to read this and I think she should do so but I am not sure what version I should get for her. Have read that there is a new edition with material included that Anne Frank's father had edited out and would prefer to buy the original version but it is hard to tell what I am buying - as looking online. Or is the 'new' edition the only one available now?

I would get the original version (1952) if you can, perhaps get one from your local library rather than buying it new.

yes, good idea. I will try that, thanks.

The stuff Anne Frank's father edited out was mostly to do with her conflicted relationships with her parents rather than anything unsavoury/sexual - I'd be getting the new version if it were up to me.
