Is " A Game of Thrones" suitable/ readable for a ten year old?

Amazon brings it up in their children's bestsellers, but it doesn't seem to be referred to as a kids book in the reviews. Anyone any ideas?

DH (who has read the whole series) says not - it includes A LOT of graphic sex and violence, including stuff directed towards small children. The David Eddings books might be better if he wants fantasy, or Robin Hobb, who does similar themes but with less adult content.

Thank you! Will avoid them then. Amazon don't seem to class them as kids books but they are in the children's bestsellers list - bizarre.
