What Age for Chronicles of Narnia?

My 7 year-old read them recently, got a bargain set from "The Works".

I started reading them aloud to my son when he was 8. I have the editions with the original illustrations in colour, which I'd recommend - the illustrations are enchanting and add a lot to the story, particularly for younger children
