How about the funny stories by Anthony Horowitz; Diamond Brothers series, Granny etc?

madamehooch · 17/04/2011 15:39

You don't say how old they are but Michael Lawrence and Andy Griffiths are good authors for 9+.

Humphrey the Hamster has gone down well here as well.

The Hiccup books by Cressida Cowell, and Eion Colfer's books, If Artemis Fowl is a bit old, there are others aimed at slightly younger readers.

I can recommend the author John Dougherty - he has a series of books about a boy who conjures up the Greek God Zeus. The first is called "Zeus on the Loose". It's Percy Jackson with bags more humour for younger readers 7-9.

The Terry Pratchett books for kids. Not the 'Hatful of Sky' lot yet (they're more girly anyway) but The Carpet People, Truckers, Diggers, Wings. So clever and funny.

Watching with interest. Ds1(7) likes Captains Underpants. Wondering what else will be suitable.
