economics for teenager

Hi
My son (15) has asked for an introduction to economics book, he is planning to take economics at A level next year. Can anyone recommend something that will engage him without being too heavy going, I dont want to get a text book as he doesn't want to start a syllabus early.

Could he ask the teacher who takes the class? I'd imagine that they are likely to have a 'favourite' book that they could suggest.

Also, what about Freakonomics. I have to say that I do find it a little annoying (the stuff they claim 'no-one thinks about' was basic first year stuff in my degree) - but it is very readable and I imagine would engage a 15 yr old interested in the subject.

Reading the economics/business section in a broadsheet newspaper would also be a good idea, I imagine.

He is going to change schools as they don't teach it at his current school, so no chance of asking the teacher.
I have heard of Freakonomics, also The Armchair Economist, have you read this? but I'm not sure as I don't know anything on the subject and have only seen them on Amazon.

What about economics for dummies as a basic overview?

Second the economics for dummies - bought it for DSS before he started his A Levels - he found it very useful.

I'd say that both the Armchair Economist and the Undercover Economist are written from a particular political viewpoint (right wing/free market/neo liberal), so it depends whether your ds will mind that and/or spot the agenda.

My son had to read The Economic Naturalist for his course and he has said it is quite good
