Special books for a pre-school boy

I'm looking for a special book (or two) to give to my 2yo DS for Christmas and his forthcoming birthday. I want the books to be something he can immerse his imagination in, with plenty of beautiful detailed illustrations.

My 6yo DD has collected lots of gorgeous books over the year, and now I want to introduce my son to something special too. I'm thinking of something along the lines of 'You Choose' (which we already have) or the '1001 things to spot' range or even the Butterfly Ball (from my childhood).

Does anyone have any recommendations for something that we can sit together and pore of the detail, and discover new things with each re-reading?

Thanks.
We have the See Inside Castles book - and its just a bit too advanced for him, so I was avoiding them for the time being.

The Zoo-ology book sounds fab - will look out for it.

Richard Scarry books might be nice as well.

Of course, Richard Scarry - I'd forgotten about his books - thanks skippy.
