book about boy and his 2 dogs

Please can anyone help me with this book? I read it when I was about 10 or 11 and it was in the children's section of the library.

It was about a boy growing up with 2 dogs possibly in America? The dogs were brother and sister and the book covered the boy getting the dogs as puppies until they died saving his life - possibly from a mountain lion.

I think that the authors surname began with 'R' but that's about it. I'd love to find the book again if possible.

I think it is 'Where the Red Fern Grows' by Wilson Rawls - now out of print but available on line.

Loved this book. Read it over and over again when I was a child. Can't believe it's out of print, but my parents still have my copy overseas.
