Is anyone child-free and had a termination?

It seems like all the people I know without children are:
Firmly childfree and have not been in the situation of having to make a decision
Not childfree by choice

I didnt think I wanted children but now Im pregnant and Im 40 with a termination booked. Has anyone been in this situation? Im worried im going to be forever haunted by what ifs

Yes. I don't regret my decision.

Yes. I was married and 43 but the timing was awful with some other stuff we had going on in our lives, and we'd always proceeded as if we weren't going to have children - DH already had a DC and really didn't want any more, and I hadnt been too bothered. I knew if I went ahead with it I would very likely have ended raising the child alone, and I made the decision to terminate rather than go down that route. If I'm honest, I have had some 'what might have been' regrets, particularly when it got to around the due date and in the months afterwards when I was imagining what it would be like to have a squidgy little baby in my arms. And then when I started to hit peri amd the point where I knew my time was up amd there would be no chance of a future baby either.

On balance, I feel like I made the right decision, but I won't lie, it was hard at times. Its a very difficult choice to make, I feel for you 💐

Thank you for your replies. My termination is tomorrow lunchtime. The past few days I've been so weepy. I'm struggling to tell whether this is a hormonal shitstorm or whether its my true feelings pushing through
