Some people seem more and more like a spoof Bond villain every day.

@KimberleyClark that is a very good point. I’m definitely borrowing that one. 👍

It’s strange - most parents say they don’t want their children looking after them when they get old, but seem very confident that other people’s children will be happy to do so?

Ah but that's okay because their children are all supposedly going to be net contributors who will be paying for the nurses and the carers etc

Except the reality is over 50% of households are net receivers not net contributors and they aren't all looking after their parents so there is still a gap there somewhere that isn't just filled by pointing the finger at childfree people

SalJ83 · 13/12/2023 12:54

Someone posted this on Facebook and said he’s got a lot in common with Matt someone, no idea who he is, anyway, he’s been having a lot of tantrums on Facebook about childfree people who apparently don’t have children so they have more time and money for Costco… He posted about his many children being there for him when he’s old but Costco won’t be there for childfree people when they’re old and lonely. Absolutely no idea what childfree people or Costco have ever done to him but he’s very upset about it all 😂

LoobyDop · 13/12/2023 13:35

Do we need to add “enhanced ability to go to Costco” to the list of good things about being childfree then?

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 13/12/2023 13:38

I didn't realise Costco was such a social amenity (never shoped there, FTR).

Why is it blokes who get so het up about couples/women not having children? is it some sort of implied slur on their masculinity as a whole?

LoobyDop · 13/12/2023 13:46

I think they’re just more openly envious of the freedom we have.

The Costco thing is because of this pair.

Couple sparks backlash after bragging about child-free lifestyle

‘We don’t have to ask our family for financial help or watch our kid when we wanna go out,’ couple says

A grown man and father of six is upset that a couple messing around on TikTok said they’re going to go to Costco and buy snacks. I’m going to have to disagree that all his kids will be there for him when he’s old. I have to assume at least some of them will distance themselves, I know I would if that was my dad!

Begsthequestion · 13/12/2023 14:22

He just wants white people to breed more because he believes in the racist conspiracy theory that is the great replacement.

fitzwilliamdarcy · 13/12/2023 14:24

@SalJ83 Completely agree. Was just providing the context. (I've never been to Costco and I find it difficult to imagine that the only thing preventing parents from going there as well is that they have kids.)

anothertrainwreck · 13/12/2023 14:29

@Begsthequestion thank you! I was coming on here to say that he is a pronatalist!

I do go to Costco (I’m clearly a childfree cliche!) and there’s always families in there, maybe he should go and see what he’s missing, unless the reason he’s so mad is that they won’t let him join 😂

'Other people's children' (grown adults) will be paid to. If needed.

HarrumphryBogart · 13/12/2023 14:52

I think having children so they'll look after you when you're old is akin to having children so you have a spare kidney around if you need one!

VeryQuaintIrene · 13/12/2023 15:05

Personally, I couldn't give a toss what he thinks.

Same reason they get upset about women having rights, women out earning them, single mothers and lesbians

Essentially they want the good old days where women were forced to marry men because they needed someone to provide for them and were then stuck with that man for life no matter how badly he behaves.

Nowadays women can earn their own money, there is significantly less social stigma about being a single mother and its okay to be a lesbian and we have access to birth control to stop having 12 kids.

All of which means women are either not getting into a relationship with shitty men or they aren't staying with them. And instead of thinking "how do we improve ourselves so women want us" they go straight go "how do we subjugate women so they have to be with us"
