Following on from a chat on another thread, here's a new thread where we can post our bakes. A few of us are going to have a go at focaccia and share pics of the results. Meanwhile here's a wholemeal loaf I made this morning. 🙂

Yum

That looks delicious! Do you make it in a breadmaker of freeform?

I have flour, olive oil and salt flakes but no olives or nice things to add to my focaccia so I shall rectify this tomorrow.

TrundleWheel76 · 02/07/2023 17:35

I have a kitchen aid and use that to knead the dough.

Darn I wish I'd seen this earlier. I'm making risotto and could've done focaccia with it!

I'll do it later in the week. What should I do with it (vegetarian)?

BabyStopCryin · 02/07/2023 18:43

I’m looking for ‘the ultimate’ baguette recipe ….

Mine are ok (like basic supermarket loads) but I want to have something that looks and tastes like I have pedalled down to my local boulangerie in the morning, and scoff it with butter, jam and a bucket of hot chocolate…

TrundleWheel76 · 02/07/2023 18:45

I like mine with olive oil, salt flakes and rosemary 😋

I think it's one of those things that it's best to keep simple.

@BabyStopCryin

I've not made proper baguettes before but would really love to!

I wonder if anyone has a good recipe to recommend?

This is mine.

I've got out the habit of making other bread but am having a major homemade pizza phase.

That looks amazing!

It's a somewhat different recipe:

500g flour, 7g yeast, 5g salt, then add 50g olive oil and 250ml water and mix, knead etc as normal.

I'm useless at baking anything except three ingredient scones! However I occasionally make soda bread and an apple/oat flour bread that is similar to banana bread but with whizzed up apples, and soaked flaxseed. Good drizzled with honey or maple syrup. It's from the "Rising Yeast" channel on YouTube.

I am a huge bread maker fan, for bread, dough (including for focaccia) and it even makes the jam to go it! My gooseberry crop is ripening beautifully and will be picked and some turned into jam in the next week or two, served on homemade bread.

Hereforthebread · 02/07/2023 22:27

I’m craving fresh bread now! I watch far too many TikTok’s of people making bread, I love when they carve designs into it or decorate focaccia with vegetables, I think that might be a bit advanced for me but I’m going to try a simple bread and see how I get on.

CyanCrystalViolet · 03/07/2023 16:13

In my experience you need a razor blade on a lame (?I think?) or a v v v v sharp knife to carve decent marks into the dough, otherwise the knife drags the dough with it and messes it up.

Here’s one I made in 2022 earlier 💁🏼‍♀️ never been able to do anything fancy.

I genuinely have no idea how that photo of my cat ended up there.

This new section gets weirder and weirder. There's a specific food section, you know?

Some lovely bread on this thread. It's making me hungry
I use a Jamie Oliver recipe and do it by hand. It's pretty easy as long as your yeast is good

Since I last made bread about a year ago, I will be using Schrödinger’s yeast.

It’s typical Kasper, always has to be centre of attention Grin

Cute cat! I’ve seen people making cuts with a razor blade when I’ve watched bread making videos but I’m not sure I’d be able to do it. In my head I can make amazing carved breads and decorated focaccia and delicious bread with fruits and nuts and all kind of lovely herbs but in real life I think I’ll end up with something that looks like a rock 😂

CyanCrystalViolet · 03/07/2023 16:59

Look what you’ve all gone and made me do when I should be getting on with work Angry
