Who to look after an eleven year old after school?

My friend, new to the UK, will need someone to look after her eleven year old after school. What kind of provider should she be looking for? Childminder? Babysitter? Afterschool clubs are a possibility but it's a private school and I think doesn't have anything attached. She'll be in Cambridge. Any suggestions would be really helpful.
Thanks!

I'd go with childminder or after school club.
As it's a private school, could she not ask if dc can stay there and study/relax until she picks them up? I'm sure they'll have a prep room and most private school at 11 have longer lesson times anyway so the child might have to stay until almost 5 anyway.

Thanks! It's in cambridge city. I wasn't sure how old childminders went up to - my kid's much younger.

Childminders can and do look after older children ... I'm a childminder and I'm considering looking after a 15 year old just in the holidays.

You could always use an after school nanny. They pick the child up and take them up, take them to any Afterschool clubs they may attend and generally keep the children occupied. Some do cook for the children.

I'd give the child a front door key, personally. If they're at secondary school, they should be able to get themselves home and entertain themselves for a couple of hours without setting light to the house, no?

I stopped using childcare for my DD1 when she went to Secondary school and now have stopped for DD2 as she is in the last term on Primary.
