Hi,
I've just become newly qualified to be a childminder In Guildford and I'm eager to get started but what do I do now?

I've advertised at my sons school, I've put an advert up at the local shops etc. but I'm struggling to get children.

Any ideas?

Are you on the CIS list?

Best thing to do is get the word out to everyone you know.

Netmums, gumtree, CIS list

I think you can put an add up on nannyjob as well...

Posters at other local schools, pre-schools, leisure centres, church halls, Dr's surgeries. A really effective one I've seen have had little tear-off strips with your name and phone number on so parents don't need to find a pen to get your details.
Print some leaflets to hand out in person at local toddler groups.

I went into the local newsagents at some ungodly hour of the morning and put leaflets in the newspaper delivery pile.

Posters in local shops, post offices, I have leaflets in reception of local school (some don't allow this but others are quite happy)

Pop into local playgroups and get known as a cm, get some t shirts printed with an advert on, this works well too, if you don't mind people staring.

We have childrens centres in my area. Perhaps advertise there. Even if you do not have any children you could find out where your childminding groups are.

Some groups allow you to place an ad on their notice board. I use to attend one childmindin group to help out even when I did not have any children with me.

Do you know any childminders who are attached to your sons school. I sometimes cannot take on a child but will let parents know who has got vacancies.
