When should I start to look for a Nanny to start in September

I will need someone 2 days a week.

So I guess I either need to start a nanny share or find a family who has someone 3 days a week.

when should I start looking? Is it too early?

It is not too early. Can probably find someone who has something lined up for summer but will be coming free after the summer. And, you will probably find the search easier if you can line up another family who wants the other three days and so offer him/her a 5 dya a week job (or even 4 day a week job).

A lot of children start school in September so some nannys may already know that they will be finishing work before that.

If you don't have luck finding a nanny now (and you might not) you could look for someone to 'share' the nanny with. Then the two families could look for a nanny together.

generally I say look 3mths in advance

many nannies I know have 2mths notice in their contract which leaves you a month to advertise/check cv/interview/check ref and 2nd interviews

I know several nannies who are losing their job in sept as charges are at school and don't want to pay a nanny a full time wage

Hello there, I'm an Ofsted Registered Nanny with space in September, where in London are you based?? I was told in May that I will only be needed in September 1 day a week due to my client going on Maternity leave which is really great as it leaves me lots of time to look for another client so start looking now....
