Would you charge more for caring for a baby?

I am a childminder caring for 5 children. Two of these are siblings. I have given parents a reducation for this. I know some childminders dont give this.

I am going to care for a third sibling. Would you charge more? and what are you charging for a baby, if I may ask. Parents would have to provide all wipes etc.

Thank!!

I charge the same for EVERYONE which is an all inclusive rate. Some people may argue that children out of nappies shouldn't be charged the same but I find that they eat more as they're older, use more sun cream etc etc. so it sort of evens out. I don't do a discount for siblings for a few reasons. I wouldn't say it's right to charge more for a baby though.

I charge the same. Babies use more nappies, but they don't eat as much food, or do as much damage as older children.

BoysAreLikeDogs · 22/05/2010 17:02

same rate for all here

MrsPW · 22/05/2010 17:03

I charge the same hourly rate for all ages.
I get confused easily so this makes it easy for me.

MUM2BLESS · 22/05/2010 17:32

Thanks MrsPW.

Does anyone do a reduction for siblings?

Does your parents bring everything for the baby.

Do most childminders provide cot for the baby?

Nope no reductions!

atworknotworking · 22/05/2010 20:21

No reductions parents provide all formula / weening foods, nappies, wipes, creams, calpols, teething gels etc

I provide car seats, travel cots all equipment, bedding etc.

MUM2BLESS · 22/05/2010 20:27

No reductions here either, I just can't see the logic in it, there is nothing easier about having two siblings compared to two un-related kids imo so why lose money on it??

Millenium · 23/05/2010 08:51

I don't offer a reduction for siblings and I know that some minders quite sensibly make special contract provisions i.e. doubling the notice period to 8 weeks because if the parents leave you, you lose two lots of income in one go! Everyone is charged the same rate here irrespective of age.

MUM2BLESS · 23/05/2010 17:25

Thanks

I did not realise that so many were charging the same for everyone. Interesting!

I give my parents some perks for using my service.

I guess certain areas do certain things. I am in Herts.

the sibling is still taking up a space
