Varies... I'd say anywhere between £6 and £12 per hour.

notnowbernard · 20/05/2010 20:49

That's quite a variation!

Our childminder charges £8 an hour for evening babysitting but I've only ever used her until 11. I would guess more for after midnight - I'd certainly offer more.

It depends on where you live. I don't charge different rates after 12, or have a minimum payment - but others do.

I'm in surrey and would charge £8

Know of two people who use adult babysitters - one is a nanny, no idea about the other. Both charge £40 for the night.

TheBreastmilksOnMe · 20/05/2010 20:59

£5 an hour I would charge from 7pm until 11pm so £20.

She's not a professional child-minder/nanny or anything - she's a student

I feel awkward asking her about payment in case she feels the need to 'undercut' herself, IYKWIM

(We know her, she's the gf of DP's mate)

There will be a big variation due to location. London and other major cities will be higher than rural areas.

How about looking on sites like childcare.co.uk (given I keep seeing their ad when I look at this Mumsnet page) to see what looks like typical costs in your area.

Good idea, thanks
