as Outstanding when filling in their SEF.

And if so did the inspector agree?

not much help sorry as i haven't had my inspection next but I wanted to mark my place!

i'm filling out my sef now too for an inspection next weekish and not at all sure what to grade myself, it's my first inspection so feels a bit presumptuous to give myself the top grade, then again don't want to be negative either...a tricky one...hopefully someone wise comes along soon!

atworknotworking · 18/05/2010 18:52

Hmm I also am being spected sometime next week so am also doing SEF, need to finish it tonight so the inspector can have it in plenty of time.

This will be my 3rd inspection, obviously I think I am outstanding but I am sadly deluded I think.

I did, then justified it with evidence - inspector agreed on 10 out of 14 points! Fell at the other 4 fences on a technicality !!

Blow your own trumpet and get your parents to blow it alongside you with written references

RosieGirl · 18/05/2010 19:33

Well I'm totally deluded - I got an outstanding pre-EYFS, since then have done my NVQ3 lots of different courses, invested in tonnes of different things, unfortunately I don't think my paperwork will get me through, because I hate planning, and find it really difficult to "formally" write down what I intend to do, I much rather go with the flow, going along with the kids interests and developing ideas with them, apart from the obvious - mums day, dads day, spring, etc etc.. other aspects of paperwork also leave me dazed and bewildered, but I don't see how it makes me any worse than pre-EYFS....SO... I ticked outstanding on all of them, because quite bloody frankly even if OFSTED don't think so, I know I do a bloody good job

HSMM · 18/05/2010 19:40

I only gave myself an outstanding in one area that I knew I could spout about and defend myself, but it didn't stop them from giving me outstanding in other areas.

BoysAreLikeDogs · 18/05/2010 19:56

I gave myself outstanding on everything

or

lol

AWNW I am v snot fair I'm still farking waiting grrrrrrrr

leeloo1 · 18/05/2010 20:24

I gave myself Good for everything and Ofsted lady upgraded me to Outstanding for everything. Whilst I was confident I was Outstanding in it all (read passion to be outstanding and lots of advice on here etc) I thought it was better to look a bit modest! Also nicer to be put up than put down IYSWIM.

atworknotworking · 18/05/2010 20:30

Thanks guys

Well the inspector called on Friday she wanted to come this week Tuesday or Wednesday, but I wasnt sure if I would be working, some of you may know that my mum went into hospital a couple of weeks ago and they found a brain tumour, the prognosis wasn't good, so the last couple of weeks has been so very hard with lots of jiggling about. The inspector was very kind and offered to come next week instead. They operated on mum yesterday, she is doing well has full speach and no memory loss and movement, so fingers crossed all will be well. Thanks to all who sent emails BTW it was very touching to have your support.

Anyway I though I was ready but going through the SEF I find that I am woefully behind, I doubt I'll get everything I need done, but hey ho Looks like mums gonna be ok and at the moment thats really all I'm bothered about.

AWNW I am sorry to hear about your Mum

fingers crossed for a swift recovery x x x

Rosiegirl. keep your planning simple. Mine is very very simple, morning, lunchtime, afternoon for each day, consisting of things like Toddler group in the morning, details of lunch and then in the afternoon, story sacks, freeplay etc. It is NOT detailed.

I then have a column down one side that is one line long, with ONE ob on each child from the week, a few words, thats all.

There is a box for adult led activity - differentiation for each child if required.

Next steps - ideas for next week.

It is so simple, I have see huge amounts of planning from some people, far too much, and it doesn't make them outstanding!

joeypotter · 19/05/2010 10:23

So good to read a few people's opinions on the grading in the sef...and like what you said leeloo about it being nicer to be put up than down.

AWNW - hope your mum is doing well.

Thanks for explaining your planning alibubbles. I was starting to worry mine was too simple so am now reassured that I don't need to bulk it out just for the sake of it.

Good luck for those with inspections looming

Tas1 · 19/05/2010 12:15

I graded myself as Outstanding back in March and the Inspector agreed, I got outstanding in all areas.

At my last inspection I got 'Good' and I was confident that I had over the last 3 yrs improved my setting, paperwork and bought in the EYFS.

I did say though that if there had been a grading between Good & Outstanding, I would have chosen that.

thebody · 19/05/2010 13:17

AWNW hope the news continues to be good for your mum.. horrible times...

I dont do the SEF online, I do my own sef and thats probably why I got good.. suited me fine though as I feel the care I offer is outstanding, I try hard anyway and kids are always happy to come and play here...

alibubbles · 19/05/2010 13:58

thebody, it shouldn't make a difference to your grade, I didn't do my SEF online either. Last time ( 2006 no sef) I left all the boxes blank and she asked what I thought I should have put, I said, well my family said Outstanding, she said I'd agree with that!

This time I did put it, and she never mentioned it, she just turned round and said. I have given you Outstanding in all areas.
