Need maternity nurse urgently - where do I start? Please help

Had my baby daughter on Thursday night: crash section at 37 weeks as my last section scar was about to burst. She is fine: I feel like death warmed up. As my DH was not expecting this he can't really take much time off. Have come to the conclusion that I need someone to help me with nights when I get home. Can barely move! I know there are agencies but it is a Bh weekend now and I would ideally want someone go start on Tuesday? Have no idea where to look. Can someone help? Is there a mat nurse website? Need someone for nights only, think I can cope with toddler in the day. For 4 or 6 weeks? Angel in central London. If anyone can give me tips, I'd be grateful I'd cry, mind you I've been doing that a fair amount anyway . is this feasible? Do people get booked up months in advance?

Gumtree.

Nannyjob.

Netmums.

Yes it is definitely feasible. You may need to be less fussy about experience or qualifications though. What's the minimum you'd accept in a night nanny?

I really feel for you - you poor thing. I know how awful c-sections can be without the added trauma that you have had.
Try childcare.co.uk This site has nannies etc and its a really easy site to use. When using try postcode first but also put in the area where you live - if that make sense.
Good luck. Hope you find someone quicky x

I have usedTinies for emergency childcare before, I am sure they will be able to send you someone for Tuesday, it is lucky you are so central in London. It might mean you get a nanny-type person rather than a specific maternity nurse and also that you would have someone different the next week but hopefully you don't mind that as by then you might have found someone more suitable.

Blondeshavemorefun · 01/05/2010 09:20

your poor thing and many congrats x

some nanny agencies have an emergancy out of hours telnumber (i know my local ones do) and you may speak to someone but otherwise agree with frakk and would say nannyjob/netmums and gumtree

i would have helped but you are not local enough to me

do you def want a mnt person or someone who exp with doing nn (like me) or just anyone with exp with children ie a nanny?

generally proper mnt do get booked up in advance and someone like me takes the slack up (as in if the 3 mnt local to me are booked up and an emergancy case comes in the agencies will call apon me)

good luck

If possible I would recommend that you have some care for your toddler too, do you use a nursery or anything at the momen?

ConnorTraceptive · 01/05/2010 09:29

Congratulations and lots of sympathy on feeling like shite!

I have no experience on matermity nurses but did have a toddler and a newborn to deal with and felt quite unwell post birth. I would strongly recomend you get some help during the day to help with baby and toddler.

frakkinnuts · 01/05/2010 09:39

night nanny

maternity nurse

newly qualified mn

Any of these any good? I love gumtree.

CrapSuzette · 01/05/2010 09:44

Had an excellent maternity nurse last minute after my DTs were born (thought I'd cope OK, but lost a lot of blood in delivery, was v anaemic felt shocking and needed the help 'cos DH was returning to work). She was from an agency called Maternally Yours in Kensington. Can't remember contact details off-hand, so try googling - she started a few days after I contacted the agency and had great references.
Hope this helps and you feel better soon.
Used to live in Angel many, many years ago - flat on Noel Road and then Colebrooke Row. I miss it!

Have you been able to find anyone yet? I may now someone who can help you out?

LittleOneMum · 01/05/2010 12:17

Frakkinuts, you are a superstar. I have now found someone through the Gumtree ads you linked to, the first one I think. She says thank you so much for linking to her post. She sounds fabulous to be honest. Thank you to all. Have now managed to get an infection but my new one is all worth it. Much love and good wishes to all who posted. This is what Mumsnet is so fabulous for...

Crapsuzette, I am lucky enough to live on Bincent Terrace; we bought an old wreck and did it up. I love it there. Noel Road and Colebrooke Row are so lovely too!
