hi all, Have recently been looking for a new babysitter and everyone I found seems to charge £10/hour. Is that the new going rate for London?

That seems a bit high. Is this through an agency? I live in Dollis Hill, NW London, and often use local friends' au pairs and willing neighbours. I pay about £7 an hour, rounding up maybe to the nearest fiver. I guess it depends on how much you're expecting the babysitter to do as well.

Have you tried sitters?

£10 an hour is the rate charged by nannies I know for babysitting - because that is their usual daytime rate.

Thanks for the advice. Will check out sitters!
PS I am used to pay £7 as well.

I live in surrey and get paid £8 per hour for nighttime babysitting. Which seems to be the norm around here.
Always after extra babysitting.

I live in NW6 and my rate is £8ph for sitting. All the families I have sat for so far have been happy with this.

Where in NW London are you based?

My DD lives in NW6 7LL and has a nice client base of families she babysits for, she has references, CRB and first aid. She is paid £8 an hour by some, £10 by others, some order dinner in for her and pay for cabs home, others she gets the bus or walks. She is flexible and happy with what all her families pay.
