.... how would you get control of it again?

Where would you start?

Hypothetically speaking of course....

BoysAreLikeDogs · 20/04/2010 08:46

oh mate

hypothetically I would prioritise something like

Risk Assessments
Policies
Obs file for each child

Don't try to do all at once, I find it easier to do what I can a TenTenLoaf

Ten minutes on one thing, ten minutes on another, ten minutes break

We can hold your hand, CAT me if you need any stuff x x x

I am online tonight from 8 maybe earlier

HSMM · 20/04/2010 13:12

and I would just start from now. Definitely no back dating. We just need to show we are getting in right for now and the future, even if we were pants in the past.

Numberfour · 20/04/2010 13:19

Thanks, BALD and HSMM.

I do have all those things in place, but not enough RA's, Attendance register not complete, Policies and Procedures need updating and Obs files out dated.... etc.

You both have very good points: I cannot do it all at once, and I can draw a line under my inadequacies and move on.

Thanks.....

hypothetically speaking.

RA's and Obs are individual so we prob can't help you with.

Although for obs this is what I would do, make a termly report, take all you areas of learning 1 for each page, put the area on the top of page as a heading so for eg ;

creative development

(photo of mindee doing summinc - dressing up?)

write a few lines underneath so summinc like

Bob enjoys dressing up as a fireman, he can dress independantly and acts out a favourite story from firman sam.

and thats it, one page for each area so 6 in total, call it Autumn Term Report (or whatever bit is behind) copy in obs file, copy to parent, sorted. Then start from now again, don't get bogged down by whats not their. Also if youv'e got a couple of mindees chances are they have all done the same or similar stuff, so once you have the template, just change the pics and names / write up you should be able to do them pretty quick on the comp.

For you Policys and proceedures, if you have them already read through quick change any major things, although I doubt much will be different, put at the top Updated on (then date) next update (then date) I do mine annually unless summinc legislative changes. This is sufficient to show that yes you have them and you review them. If you need any just ask.

navyeyelasH · 20/04/2010 19:00

number 4 it's a pain isn't it. What do you need to update RE policies and procedures & RAs? Have you looked on bromley childminding?

Numberfour · 21/04/2010 07:07

thanks, everyone.

my RAs are inadequate because i don't have them for all outings etc.

my policies and procedures need updating because i have not looked at them for about 20 months.

my obs and assessments are behind because I ran out of steam after my inspection last June and (ironically) my EYPS assessment in July.

Added to that the stress of DH's business going t*ts up and me being the breadwinner for the better part of 2 years, I just had to keep things ticking over as best I could.

BUT: the sun is out, DH has new job, and I am being assessed in 9 days time for accreditation. AAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGHH

  • but a weak

Ok

RA's are they for places like soft play etc? if so the centres will have a RA that they will happily (in most cases give you) have you got a template in place? I've found that most places are pretty similar WRT hazards, I did about 20 in an hour.

I'm sure P & P's that most of us will happily share Do you have a trading name, you could just edit the top bit.

If you are expecting visit for accreditation then personally I think you should perhaps concentrate on the EYFS stuff, as I would imagine thats the main thing they will be looking at, although I have no experience in this area. Maybee someone else who is accredited can specifically tell you what they look at.

Well done for looking at the positives, you sound like youv'e had it really rough the last couple of years. Well done to DH on new job.

Lets get that to a

Shoshe · 21/04/2010 07:29

need one for my oven i think too

Numberfour · 21/04/2010 08:16

thanks, Shoshe

Atwork, i really like your termly "reports" and may use this for my accreditation if that's okay.

I have taken on EIGHT children who fall within EYFS but one is only with me term time and then only before school for about 40 minutes so he does not not not have an obs and assessment file.

and then one little one in holiday time only. i will do a quick one for her.

others are on the go but behind.

My RAs are non-existent for various outings, I know it'll only take a few minutes but I just don't have a few minutes that I want to spend doing them all!

Katymac · 21/04/2010 20:06

For external/outings RA - I have a longish master, then I do a ticklist with the following headings
Staff Ratio

Appropriate clothes: Children

Appropriate clothes: Staff

Children?s requirements

Refreshments

First Aid Kit

Car

Car seats/ booster seat

Seatbelts

On foot outings

Crossing Roads

Narrow Pavements

Buggies

Telephone & numbers

Venue: Electrical

Venue: Windows

Venue: Doors

Venue: Floors

Venue: Chemicals

Venue: Equipment

Venue: Doesn?t belong

Venue: Secure

Then I do a ticklit outing RA for each type of outing per term

Hayleycm · 21/04/2010 20:18
