Can't find afterschool club childcare on the OFSTED site?

Hello
I've just had a look on the OFSTED website, and I can't seem to find my DD's afterschool club on there at all which is slightly worrying. When I applied for tax credits, I asked for their registration number and I was given a photocopy of their certificate of registration. I used the registration number to search (it worked on the holiday childminder I use) but it came up with nothing. I found the actual school's inspection report but no word of the wrap-around care. The date on the photocopy of the certificate is July 2008.

Could there be any logical reason for it not showing up on the website that anyone can think of? Am now getting slightly worried that they may no longer be registered with OFSTED (though I could be totally wrong as I'm sorry I'm not sure exactly how it all works )

Thanks for any help

Do you see it if you search using the Postcode?

GreatBallsOfFluff · 06/04/2010 20:22

No, and if I search for the school's name, I just get the school part of it.

Oh poor you Hayley

I have tried every search I can think of such as "the governing body of (school name) - that is what it says on the certificate as being registered to provide Out of School Day Care, I've tried "(school name) Childcare" as that is at the top of the address on the certificate and as I said above, I've tried the registration number as well and just keep coming up with nothing

So using the URN search you have put in the registration number (including EY if applicable), selected Care, and clicked Go ... and nothing is showing?

You have also tried Search by Postcode, entered in the postcode and selected 5 miles, selected Childcare on Non-Domestic... and clicked Find. Again no result?

Hmm... options:
ask to see their registration certificate - take a note of the number again, then search again.
call Ofsted and ask them if the setting is still registered.

its very annoying also has wrong area too on mine took me over a week to find myself!

Katymac · 06/04/2010 20:31

Hayleycm - is it a good idea to have such an unusual name on MN - does it not make you too identifiable?

I'd ask to have your post removed

Plus you name won't BE on the OFSTED website - it is all anonymous are you sure you aren't thinking about the direct.gov site?

nannynick · 06/04/2010 20:33

The fact that you are searching for words, makes me think that you are not using the right search box.
Where it says URN, only enter in the registration number... Format 6 digits: 123456
or EY+6digits: EY123456

Hayleycm · 06/04/2010 20:37

ooooo dear how do i remove? got carried away!

GreatBallsOfFluff · 06/04/2010 20:37

Nannynick that's the first thing I tried as I did that with the other childminder and found her immediately - it was only because Hayley mentioned having to type in her full name that I tried that.

I can't find it with the URN number "EY123456" or with the postcode search, even though the postcode search came up with all the other providers in my area + 5 miles (including the other primary school in my town).

Am starting to get very worried they're not registered still

hayley I have reported your post to MNHQ so they should delete it soon.

In future, if you need to get a post deleted, click on REPORT on the blue line by your name and follow the instructions.

What about the numbers without the EY bit? (or did you do that already?)

Hayleycm · 06/04/2010 20:40

thanks think ill stop posting now this fire thing got me all worried need to convince my fella to cover it :D

GreatBallsOfFluff · 06/04/2010 20:42

Nope, I've tried that Katy and it just keeps saying it's invalid, or in the search that no results were found

Gosh MNHQ are working fast, it's gone already.

GBoF - Think you will need to ask them. See what they say. Call Ofsted if necessary to confirm registration status.

GreatBallsOfFluff · 06/04/2010 20:50

Thanks for your help Nannynick - I was thinking that's what I may have to do, but was just wondering if there could be a logical reason for it not being up there but I guess not. Will get them to clarify the registration number after the holidays.

Thank you all for your help

Some afterschool clubs weren't transferred across in September 2008 when EYFS came in because they are exempt under the new rules, so they don't need to be registered as a separate provision to the school.

The exact text from the Ofsted guidance is this: "If you are a school that provides education or care for children aged three and over, where at least one child being cared for is a pupil of the school. Children who are two years old when they start school but are three by the end of their first term at school (known as rising threes), may count as age three when deciding whether you need to register."

So basically if it's an afterschool club for three year olds or older run by the school, then they may not need to be registered anymore. (Technically this is because the care they provide would now be inspected along with the primary school instead of independently just as the afterschool club.)

Should the club/school know if they were not transferred as a separate registration? Yes. But in practice the message didn't always seem to get across, and some clubs only seem to find out when Ofsted visit the school to inspect and include the club in their visit. Either way Ofsted should be able to tell you what the position is though.
