British nanny in west Paris?

This might be a long shot... We are now moving to Paris area and before deciding where to look for a house, would need to know which are the best areas to find a British live-out nanny/childminder. Now considering Yvelines (78) somewhere along the RER A line.

Does anyone know how this works, does the local council have lists of childcare options or are there any listings I should check?

Your best bets if you want an agency are International Nannies, based in the 7th, and Nannies Inc. Otherwise Message often know of nannies looking for work and plenty advertsie on Angloinfo Paris and Franglo. There are lots of British nannies out there but a lot live in Paris proper, or (as you said) Yvelines. Chatou has the British school so there or Le Vesinet would be a good place to find a nanny, or Versailles, Saint Germain etc. I highly recommend Evelyne at International Nannies from a nanny POV and found plenty of work from AngloInfo. You could also advertise at the British churches.

Childminders (assistant(e) maternel(le)s) will be listed locally or try this site which lets you search for one local to you and shows the AMs mother tongue. You can also search for nannies on there. There are British AMs but I don't know how common they are. A registered childminder will have 'agre(e)' in their advert. You probably don't want a 'nounou' which is an unregistered childminder if they say 'a son domicile'.

British nanny in Versailles - it's in French. I can help you with a translation if you don't speak it.

Meant to say you should definitely consider taking an agency's advise on where the highest concentration of nannies is and the best ones IMO are the 2 I mentioned.
