Hi

has anyone any knowledge of www.childmindersoftware.com/index.html
is it worth the money?

OP posts:

Looneytune give me a link to one that you have just uploaded and one they originally uploaded and I will let you know

looneytune · 27/03/2010 19:39

Thanks so much

Can't link individual pics but use this link here. The new pics on this section start on page 8 (page 8 is mixed, 9 and 10 just new), before page 8 are the originals uploaded by the company.

Thanks

BabysDays · 27/03/2010 19:42

erm, have you just broke your site, I can't connect or ping it!

looneytune · 27/03/2010 19:47

not sure what happened there but I see what you mean as I couldn't get in. I've just gone back in to CMS and actually signed out this time and now it works. Not sure if this has anything to do with it though as it's never happened before plus I checked the link after posting on here.

Anyway, I've got it back now so try again and hopefully you will have too

nannynick · 27/03/2010 20:00

Looney if you need an image resizer, I use Irfanview. When resizing images, ALWAYS Remember to work on a Copy of the image - so you can always start again from the original.

BabysDays · 27/03/2010 20:03

Ok I am in now....

Ok this image is on page 1:

www.helenslittleangels.co.uk/images/gallery/IMPZZ_f134e3wespyxk.jpg

The resolution of that image is HUGE and it is over 200k in size

Here is the same image again:

www.kahl.co.uk/image.jpg

This time it is 20k in size - 10 times smaller

OK, this image is on page 10:

www.helenslittleangels.co.uk/images/gallery/IMPZZ_413eauznmw6on.jpg

The resolution of that image is also HUGE and it is nearly 300k in size

Here is the same image again:

www.kahl.co.uk/image1.jpg

Now it is 28k, - 10x smaller

It seems to me that your CMS is not resizing the images properly, have a word with your website designers and get them to look into this as it is definately not doing what it is supposed to do, photos take a loooong time to load on your site.

Regards

Mark.

I think nick's point is that statements like 'no other system will cause your system to slow down or crash' are patently rubbish. The trumpeting of 'your own subdomain' as some kind of guarantee of hardware independence is totally irrelevant.

I assume you are not currently serving your site from the roll-out system (because that is a bog-standard shared hosting service), but if you are going to make technical claims you should back them up with some facts.

looneytune · 27/03/2010 20:15

Thanks Babydays/Nick - I'll contact the company and see what they say. I've not had pages taking ages to load but I bet that's because once I've been in, my computer remembers and they pop up quickly? I just gave them all photos on a memory stick when they were developing it so presumed they'd do the necessary. They are truly fab though and my account manager is lovely so I'm sure I can get this sorted - thanks so much for pointing this out as my pics are very important for my image imo

It is you that is doing the belittling:
By BabysDays Fri 26-Mar-10 03:12:46
"Our software blows all those systems out of the water" etc.

I have no connection with any childiminding or nursery software, and I have no desire to knock your product (FWIW I think it looks good) but if you are going to use this forum to promote your product I think you should expect other people that 'come here' (or are already here ) to challenge your claims.

I also have a question for you - does everything happen using SSL?

BabysDays · 27/03/2010 22:40

That's not belittling, that's a sales fact and very true!

Thank you, I am glad you like it.

Regarding your question....Are you really asking me that? Do you really think we would operate thee systems without SSL?

Now I am offended

nannynick · 27/03/2010 23:11

Security concerns on this kind of thing I feel are justified. The more reassurance there can be that the systems used are secure the better.

One potential problem that may exist or may not is that a CM may record something that they don't want the parent to see - at least not initially. Perhaps a developmental concern for example.
Does the system clearly show what data from various places are viewable by parents?

Just thought of a question:
Would a childminder using this system need to register under the Data Protection Act?

pippin26 · 27/03/2010 23:19

I was just going to ask that Nick - regarding the Data Protection Act and registration.
if you are storing photos and written information on people (children) then the system has to be extremely secure and you should be registered with Data Protection.

mranchovy · 27/03/2010 23:28

I just got a bit worried when I didn't see any mention of it in the 'How secure...' section of your site, just lots of detail about the (IMHO dubious) merits of SecureLive.

mranchovy · 27/03/2010 23:41

A childminder using any sort of system other than entirely paper records is required to register with the ICO - see this handbook.

mranchovy · 28/03/2010 02:32

Sorry, should have said a childminder using any sort of system for EYFS or containing other personal information.

A spreadsheet that just shows who is booked in when, or for producing invoices, is probably exempt from the registration requirements.

3children · 22/12/2010 17:04

I dont understand why Mark is getting slated so much for his system or for how he responds to posts. I have never met him but have spoken on the phone and via email and he is really professional , informative and genuinely nice. The poor man has literally had to phone his babysdays users to defend himself,How sad is that ??? Ive just had my call and I back him 100%. I love his site and my parents are really happy with it. I pay £9.99 a month for a system which allows me free time to concentrate more on the children in my care. Give him a break and stop deleting his posts. Everyone should be entitled to defend themselves. From what I have witnessed and experienced today as a new user I am appalled at how some of the users on here conduct themselves....and they look after children !

pippin26 · 22/12/2010 18:21

3children - i think 'mark' gets slated because of his rather aggressive and nasty style of posting when anyone questions his product for a start or even offers and alternative POV. Very bizarre for a businessman trying to sell his product.

From what i have witnessed on other sites NOT just this one - his behaviour leaves a lot to be desired.

Its great that the system works for you. Have you registered with the ICO?

3children · 22/12/2010 18:54

Yes cos of all the logistics with data protection.
I know, Im probably really defensive because the system does work for me and I just dont get all the criticism in general Im a mumsnet virgin and personally, probably without intent, I just feel really harangued because I havent had any bad dealings with him, but I dont seem to be "allowed" to defend it !!?? Confusing !, but also Im just not like that anyway. Ive found it quite intimidating lol Im probably seen as some misguided, extremely opionated user that is not worthy of an opinion....anyway enough woe is me, that how Ive been made to feel on yesterdays and todays posts !

pinkchick1 · 29/07/2013 07:58

Sorry I have to say, I have the system. Its great for most things, but when you do start using it you realise that you could in essence do the same thing by designing your self some sheets in word with boxes, each box is a section of eyfs, plus you have an obsevation and a next steps box, type in obs, insert pics, etc, type out diary and email to parent. Parents are logging i to babysdays, why just not log into their email and open todays diary. The bonus with this is, if you have a smart phone, parents have 24 /7 contact on the move with you.

Contracts you can make, I had my own contracts for years, and re invoicing, excel have drop down menues that do the same invoicing system so just email them.

Its truly a fab system, I get why its their and I found its great form me, don't say bad things unless you have used it.
