As a CM I have always been a bit dubius of bringing strangers into my home, to basically childmind, although there are plenty of sites were we can advertise, Parents can advertise to, but how do we know what they are like?
So why can't I start a site where we have a network of cm's who go to parents houses and check them out before cm's interview in there homes,
PLEASE let me know what you think on this

Hi gotkidz, I don't understand your post.

Isn't the risk the same?

gotkidz · 08/03/2010 16:42

well there are possible risks, but its lmost like what ofsted do for us cm's, we have to have checks to make sure we are suitable so why cant we do the same to prospective parents?

I know some CM's do a home visit, initially to get an idea of whether things will work out. I tend to get a feeling at first contact (usually phone) if we are going to get along. From experience families who have been reccommended to me work better than those who havn't, therefore I tend to only take reccommendations now.

I understand your point but it would be another layer of burecracy wouldnt it?

I tend to only start taking prospective parents seriously when they actually sign on the dotted line..

I go through the contract line by line WITHOUT KIDS PRESENT and halt care if payment is overdue by a week.. much more business like (cynical) now having been burnt badly in the past..

not sure on the home visit.. the wealthiest parents are often the bloody hardest to get cash from imo.

What checks would you be wanting done on parents?

Before I babysit for a family, I arrange to meet them first. So that's a way I get to check them out a little though there isn't much you can check really.

the schools and the nurseries in my area do a home visit before you start and then another after and few months of attending
