Hi

My cousin, who lives abroad built a fantastic website for me a few years ago but is expecting her first child and obviously very busy with baby things so can't really update it for me. So I am looking to build myself a website but know absolutely nothing about how to do this. I have bought the domain name on my current website so not sure if this gives me access to update it myself (cousin has always done this for me and website on her own server).

For those of you who have done this yourselves, have you used a 'free' website builder and who did you use as host?

Probably easiest to update existing site, as you may only be wanting some minor changes with text elements, thus a text editor could be used.
Ask for the FTP username and password, then you can log in using an FTP client like FileZilla and edit HTML documents.
There are many websites to help you get a grasp of HTML, do a google search for things like HTML Tutorial.

I got my domain name from 123.reg and they now host my site too. I don't use their uploading facilities, I use microsoft expression web to amend and upload my site. I got this as a university student at www.rm.com/thebasement

www.thechildminderinloughton.com

so easy to do and update as and when. £30 a year
