How do you fit in three car seats?!

I've just had a horrible thought - I've decided to take on a mindee that I need to pick up from Nursery and although I could walk once I get a triple pram sorted, it will be approx a 15m walk and I don't know if parents will want me to do it in the rain etc. I had always planned to drive - now I suddenly realise that trying to get three car seats into a Ford Fiesta is very unlikely to work. ARRRRGHHH!

Can you turn off the front airbag? If not, you are, as they say, stuffed in terms of driving them all. We had exactly the same problem with our children and now have a people carrier. Sorry to not be more helpful. x

what does you user manual say about forward facing seats in the front? It may be online...

lollipopmother · 24/01/2010 18:20

Yes I'm looking in to that, I think that I can get something installed to allow me to turn the airbag on and off, it'll cost an arm and a leg I expect even though some cars are made with it in the first place.

im sure that if you have 2 car seats installed which prevents a 3rd and the child is 3 or over then they can sit in the middle without a car seat. if you wanted you could sit them on a booster seat

What cheryl said

Unfortunately the children with be 8 months, 20 months and 27 month, grrrrr.

Riven - That's very interesting, what seats did you use?

the slimmest car seat you can get is a britax prince.

xoxcherylxox · 24/01/2010 21:54

you could get away with putting the 27th month and possibly the 20month in the next stage car seat the booster back ones that have the harness strapes in them as they are really from 9 months old but i doubt i would put a 9 month old in 1. these cars seats dont tend to be as big as the stage before it

lollipopmother · 24/01/2010 23:06

I've not heard of those Cheryl, I'll take a look for them. I thought that the Britax ones went until they were at least 4.

Navyeyelash - Thanks for that, I'll google the spec on the Britax Prince.

I got my front airbag turned off. I think the company was www.airbagman.co.uk

lollipopmother · 25/01/2010 12:29

Thanks for that link HSMM.

Well, I've been quoted £130 from Ford to install a switch to deactivate the airbag. I think maybe I'll do this rather than get two new carseats as I already have two Britax seats and I don't want to have to sell those two just to get three others and to get three new carseats it'd cost more than the switch.

Hmmmm, £130, not sure where I'll be getting that from !
