Ok, on tuesday, a mum called me, she needed a place for her 20 months old asap. I said great I have got a place for mondays and tuesdays. She said can I come to see you now I'm around the corner ? I said ok but you'll excuse the mess as it is normaly the time I tidy up for the afternoon.

She said no worries.

Then she comes, she was really lovely, she liked what I had to offer etc..Then she said I really need someone for 5 days. I said well I'm sorry but I can only offer 2 days, 3 days max (if I sacrifice my day off) but will be able to offer you 5 days in april/may.

She said great, when can I come to sign the contrat ? I said Saturday 2 oclock is fine by me.

The day after, I have had phone call from my childminders friends and they told me this lady had call them (I have told my friends that a lady was about to sign a contract with me) and that she told them that she really liked me but I cant take him 5 days so she needs to look elsewhere. She even have one app with one of my closest friend right after she is supposed to sign the contract. My friend said she could do the 2 days I cant until I can take him full time which is great.

My question is : do you think this mum is messing me around ? Why would she go to ask somewhere else if she wants to sign the contract ? I mean I have asked her twice if she was sure she wanted to go with me even if I couldnt offer her 5 days from the beginning. She said fine. If I dont get that child I'm going to be in deep financial bad state

IME don't count your money til the contract is signed

fingers crossed

she might well have these other appointments with the other childminders 'just in case'

good luck

i think she's looking for 5 days so she's looking to you for 2/3 and someone else for 5 days... she is probably desperate rather than messing you around.

but you never know - if someone turns up who can do 5 days you couldn't blame her for going there.

hope it works out for both of you.

Thank you fuffles ! No I really cant blame me for wanting 5 days and if she can find someone, fine ! I'm scared she is not going to let me know that she doesnt want me and let me waiting for her on saturday !

Hmmm, sounds like she could be just looking for someone to do the remaining days, but I'd be worried too. Are you going to charge a retainer/deposit or anything?

Summerfruit · 22/01/2010 08:06

Well she is supposed to start on monday for settling him and then the first official day is the 1rst of february. What is worrying me is the lack of communication, I'm not used to that.

totally understand and fingers crossed for you. If she signs, and then messes you around, at least you will get 4 weeks notice money.

Funny how parents seem to think cms dont hear the gossip in the playground??

Summerfruit · 22/01/2010 14:08

Well she called and said that she wont need me after all as her parents in law are going to help her for 3 months. She asked me if I could keep the place until June, I have said yes why not, you'll have to pay full fees even if you dont use the place until you start. She said well maybe I'll call you around the time..Whatever..

I'm sorry to see your update, what a p*ss take, so frustrating to have wasted your time with her but at least she told you before she was going to start
