Some things can be taste and smell can't they? Lemon juice for example.

Smell: smelly socks! Various cheeses

Textures: Shaving foam, shaving gel, shaving oil (they also tend to be perfumed, so also count for smells). cold Baked beans

BoysAreLikeDogs · 12/01/2010 20:44

oooh shaving foam and oil, and baked beans and lemon juice. Vinegar too? ketchup?

yes, there will be some crossover, hence the marzi-plan (geddit?)

You could split taste in sweet, sour, salty and bitter? And make some tongues showing which areas "detect" each taste them get the kids to put the food on the certain part of the tongue? Might be ambitious though, depending on ages!

Smell: onions, cinnamon, vanilla, smellin salts (dangerous?), olabas oil/aftershave on a tissue, mothballs hmmmm will try and think of more.

Instead of marzipan you could also make playdoh and add peppermint, vanilla essence, rice etc into the actual playdoh!

I this going to be for your monthly topic or similar do you need a song? Just found this:

Five Senses
(Tune: Where is Thumbkin)

Five senses, five senses
We have them. We have them.
Seeing, hearing, touching,
Tasting and smelling.
There are five. There are five.

I want to do marzipan as we have done play doh to death (christmas farkin playdoh with orange oil and glitter for eg )

the children are 2 and 2.5 and the baby is nearly 1 - perhaps a bit young for your idea but I'll file away in my memory as a way to adapt for older children if the inspector asks

oooh onions is a good one

right thanks all
